Two very different approaches to the same goal

Both Endolift and surgical facelift are designed to address skin laxity and loss of facial definition. But they work in completely different ways, with different risks, recovery times, costs and results. Here is what you actually need to know before deciding.

This comparison is written to give you the full picture, not to sell you one option over the other. If surgical facelift is genuinely right for you, we will say so. Our job is to help you make the right decision for your situation.

What is Endolift?

Endolift is a minimally invasive laser treatment that delivers energy beneath the skin using an ultra-fine optical fibre. It causes immediate tissue tightening and stimulates ongoing collagen remodelling over the months that follow.

It is performed under local anaesthetic, takes around 45 to 90 minutes and is carried out entirely in clinic. Most patients return to normal activities within a week. The result is genuine lifting and tightening of the lower face, jowls and neck without surgery.

What is a surgical facelift?

A surgical facelift (rhytidectomy) is a procedure performed under general anaesthetic in a hospital or surgical setting. The surgeon makes incisions, repositions underlying facial tissue and removes excess skin to create a lifted, tightened appearance.

It is the most powerful facial rejuvenation procedure available, capable of producing dramatic results. It is also the most invasive, carrying the full risks of surgery and requiring a significant recovery period.

What surgery can do that Endolift cannot

We think it is important to be clear about this. If surgical facelift is the right answer for you, we will tell you.

Where surgery has the advantage

If you have very significant skin laxity, particularly loose or hanging skin rather than mild to moderate sagging, surgical facelift can achieve a degree of correction that no non-surgical treatment can match.

Surgery also lasts longer. The results of a well-performed facelift typically hold for 7 to 10 years, compared to 3 to 5 for Endolift.

If you are seeking the most transformative result possible and are prepared for the recovery, costs and risks involved, surgery may genuinely be the better option for your goals.

Where Endolift is the stronger choice

For patients with mild to moderate laxity, Endolift produces results that are genuinely impressive, far beyond what surface treatments can achieve, with a fraction of the risk and recovery of surgery.

For patients who are not ready for surgery, or who want to delay it, Endolift is an excellent holding strategy that addresses the problem meaningfully in the interim.

For patients who want improvement without anyone knowing they have had anything done, Endolift’s natural-looking results and absence of visible scarring are a significant advantage.

Choosing the Right Option

Which approach is right for you?

The right choice depends on your degree of laxity, your lifestyle, your tolerance for risk and how significant a change you are looking for.

Endolift may suit you if

You want real results without surgery

  • You have mild to moderate skin laxity in the lower face, jowls or neck
  • You cannot or do not want to take 4 to 6 weeks off for recovery
  • You want to avoid general anaesthetic and the risks that come with it
  • You want results that look natural rather than obviously treated
  • You are looking to delay surgery and want meaningful improvement in the meantime
  • You want a repeatable option that can be refreshed over time
Surgical facelift may suit you if

You want the most dramatic change possible

  • You have significant or advanced skin laxity with excess hanging skin
  • You are prepared for 4 to 8 weeks of recovery and downtime
  • You want the longest-lasting result available
  • You are seeking a substantial, transformative change in appearance
  • You are medically suitable for general anaesthetic and surgery
  • You have consulted with both a surgeon and a non-surgical specialist
Common Questions

Questions we hear most often

Honest answers from Dr Corcoran.

Can Endolift replace a facelift?
For patients with mild to moderate laxity, Endolift can achieve results that genuinely rival a facelift in natural appearance, with far less risk and recovery. For patients with significant or advanced laxity, surgery may still be the more appropriate option. The honest answer depends entirely on your individual situation, which is why we always assess in person first.
Is Endolift much cheaper than a facelift?
Generally yes, though the difference varies by clinic and geography. Surgical facelifts in the UK typically cost significantly more than Endolift when surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital facility costs are combined. Endolift pricing is available on our pricing page, and we are always happy to discuss costs during consultation.
Is Endolift safe?
Endolift is a minimally invasive procedure with a well-established safety profile. Because it uses local rather than general anaesthetic, it avoids the systemic risks associated with surgery. As with any procedure, there are potential side effects including temporary bruising, swelling and tenderness. Dr Corcoran will discuss all risks fully during your consultation.
Can I have Endolift after a surgical facelift?
Yes. Endolift is often an excellent option for patients who have previously had a surgical facelift and are beginning to see the results soften. It can extend the benefit of the original procedure and is far less complex than revision surgery.
