Scarring and skin texture
Acne scar treatments and skin texture improvement in Warrington, delivered personally by Dr James Corcoran. Real structural improvement, without surgery.
What causes scarring and uneven skin texture?
Scarring and poor skin texture are among the most psychologically impactful skin concerns we treat. Understanding the type of scarring you have shapes which treatment will work.
Acne scarring develops when inflammatory acne lesions damage the dermis, the deeper layer of skin responsible for its structure. As the skin attempts to repair itself, it sometimes produces too little collagen, leaving a depressed or pitted scar, or too much, creating a raised scar. The type of scar you have, ice pick, boxcar, rolling or hypertrophic, determines the most appropriate treatment approach.
Poor skin texture more generally can result from enlarged pores, sun damage, keratosis pilaris, previous skin infections, or simply the gradual decline in cellular turnover that comes with age.
Acne scarring and uneven texture respond exceptionally well to regenerative treatments. These are concerns that were once considered very difficult to address without surgery. That is no longer the case.
Why acne scars are difficult to treat with topical products alone
Topical skincare products work at the surface level. Acne scars and structural texture irregularities exist in the deeper dermis, where creams and serums cannot reach. The treatments that produce real, lasting improvement are those that work beneath the surface, triggering the skin’s own regenerative processes.

Acne scar and texture treatments we recommend
Every treatment is delivered personally by Dr James Corcoran at our Warrington clinic. Your plan will be tailored to the type and severity of your scarring.
Top pickNeoGen Plasma Skin Regeneration
Our most powerful treatment for acne scarring. NeoGen delivers nitrogen plasma energy to the skin, triggering genuine regeneration of the dermis from within. Rather than resurfacing the skin surface, it remodels scarred tissue at depth, progressively smoothing pitted, rolling and boxcar scars. Results continue for up to six months and last two to three years.

Microneedling
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that activate the body’s natural healing response, gradually improving texture, tone and the appearance of scars. A good option for mild to moderate scarring, often combined with PRP for enhanced results.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP uses growth factors derived from your own blood to accelerate skin regeneration. Applied during or after microneedling, it significantly enhances the collagen-stimulating effect, improving scar remodelling and overall skin quality.

Polynucleotide Treatment
Polynucleotides work at a cellular level to repair damaged tissue and stimulate regeneration, improving skin quality at a structural level and helping normalise tissue disrupted by scarring.
