The lines and wrinkles a consultation looks at
Lines that look the same can have different causes, and a treatment that suits one can do nothing for another. The consultation starts by working out which kind you have.
-
Lines from movement
Lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes that show when you move your face, and can stay when you stop. What suits them is discussed in person.
-
Fine lines and crepey skin
Lines that come from the skin itself thinning and drying. Improving the skin, with a skin booster or microneedling, is often the answer.
-
Deeper folds
Folds from the nose to the mouth and below the corners of the mouth, usually from lost volume and support rather than from the skin.
-
Texture and sun damage
Lines that sit within rough, sun damaged or uneven skin, which respond to treatments that renew the surface.
Most faces have more than one of these. The plan that comes out of the consultation deals with the ones that matter to you, in the order that makes sense.
How the consultation works
Dr Corcoran looks at your face at rest and as it moves, and at the skin, the volume beneath it and the support beneath that. Then he tells you what he thinks is causing the lines that bother you, and what, if anything, will help.
Some of the options are treatments described elsewhere on this site, such as skin boosters, microneedling and fillers. Some options for lines are prescription-only, and those are only ever discussed and prescribed in person, after assessment. They are not advertised here.
You leave with a plan and a price, not a booking you feel you have to keep. If the right answer is to leave well alone, that is the advice you will get.
The treatments that improve the skin itself are described on the Profhilo and microneedling pages.

These are the options for lines and wrinkles that this site can describe. They work on the skin or on volume. Which suits you depends on what is causing your lines, which is why the consultation comes first.
Prescription-only options are not compared here, because they cannot be advertised. If one is appropriate for you, it will be discussed at the consultation, with its benefits and its risks, before anything is decided.
The longer versions
Dr Corcoran offers all of these, so the comparison is not steering you towards any one of them.
What it costs, and what happens
The consultation is free. Treatment is priced once Dr Corcoran has agreed with you what, if anything, is right, so the figure you are given is for your plan rather than a headline.
The consultation, with no obligation. Prices for every treatment are on the price list, and you are quoted precisely at consultation for whatever you decide to go ahead with.
Who it suits, and the risks
A consultation suits anyone over 18 who is bothered by lines and wrinkles and would like a doctor’s honest view of what is causing them and what would help.
A good fit if
- You are bothered by lines or wrinkles and want to know why
- You want the options explained, including their risks
- You want to be assessed by a doctor, in person
- You are over 18
Not the right answer if
- You are under 18. Treatment for lines is only given to adults
- You want treatment booked without being assessed first
- You want a dramatic change. Proportion is the default here
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. Treatment waits, though a consultation does not
Medication, allergies and any previous treatment on your face are discussed at the consultation, before anything is decided.
The recognised risks
Every treatment for lines carries risks, and they differ from one treatment to the next. The ones that apply to your plan are explained at the consultation, before you consent to anything.
- Bruising, swelling and tenderness where an injection is given, which are common and short lived
- Redness and light peeling after treatments that renew the skin
- Rarely, a blocked blood vessel after fillers and skin boosters
- Infection, which is uncommon with any treatment
The risks of each treatment described on this site are set out in full on its own page. The ones that apply to you are explained in person.
Who carries out your treatment
BDS, FDSRCS, MBChB, FRCS, FRCA, PgDip, MSc (Cos Med)
A great deal of the lasering and injecting done in this industry is done by people who did a short course. Most clinicians qualify once. He qualified as a dentist, operated on faces and jaws in maxillofacial surgery, then went back to university and qualified again as a doctor, then in surgery, then in anaesthesia, then in cosmetic medicine. Thirty years of that was in the NHS, fourteen as a Consultant Anaesthetist and ten of those simultaneously as Clinical Director, accountable for clinical standards across departments.
There are no technicians here acting on his behalf. Your consultation, your treatment and your review are all with him.
Telling a line caused by the skin from one caused by lost volume or by movement is most of the work, and it is done by examining a face rather than reading a list. The person doing it here spent his first career in maxillofacial surgery, operating on faces and jaws.
An anaesthetist spends a career learning what can go wrong and being the person who notices first. That is a more useful habit to bring to this work than any device I could buy.

What patients say
The consultation alone was worth its weight in gold. Dr Corcoran was completely transparent about what could and could not be achieved. That level of honesty is genuinely rare in aesthetics.
Dr Jim is not only a trained dentist, surgeon and anaesthetist at the top of his game, he really does put the client at the heart of the treatment plan.
Cannot recommend enough. Amazing doctor. Extremely professional and very friendly, takes the time to get to know his clients.
Anti-wrinkle consultation questions, answered
Dr Corcoran looks at your face at rest and as it moves, works out what is causing the lines that bother you, and talks you through what would help, what it would cost and what the risks are.
Yes. The consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead with anything.
Because lines have different causes that can only be told apart by examining your face. Medical guidance also requires an in-person assessment before some treatments for lines can be prescribed.
Skin boosters such as Profhilo, microneedling and NeoGen for lines that come from the skin, and dermal fillers for deeper folds from lost volume. Other options are discussed in person at the consultation.
The consultation is free. Prices for every treatment are on the price list, and you are quoted precisely at consultation for whatever you decide to go ahead with.
Dr James Corcoran, personally, from consultation to review. He is registered with the General Medical Council, number 4229209.
Yes. Treatment for lines and wrinkles is only given to adults over 18.
They depend on the treatment. Bruising, swelling and tenderness are common after any injection, and a blocked blood vessel is a rare risk with fillers and skin boosters. The risks that apply to your plan are explained before you consent to anything.
Then that is what you will be told. A consultation that ends with no treatment is a good outcome if no treatment is the right answer.
