Understanding Your Skin

What causes wrinkles and fine lines?

Wrinkles are one of the most universal signs of ageing, but understanding exactly what drives them changes which treatment will work best for you.

There are two distinct types of wrinkle, and treating them effectively requires understanding the difference. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeated muscle movement — the frown lines between the brows, the crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes, the horizontal lines across the forehead. Every expression you make deepens these lines a little more over time.

Static wrinkles, on the other hand, are present even when your face is at rest. These develop as collagen and elastin production declines with age, as the skin gradually loses the scaffolding that kept it smooth and plump. Sun damage, dehydration, smoking and genetics all accelerate this process significantly.

The most effective treatment for wrinkles depends entirely on which type you have. Dynamic wrinkles respond best to muscle relaxants. Static wrinkles respond better to regenerative and injectable treatments that address the underlying skin structure.

Why wrinkles worsen over time

Dynamic wrinkles that begin as expression lines gradually become static as the skin loses its ability to bounce back. This is why early intervention with the right treatment can make a significant difference to the long-term appearance of the skin. A combination approach, addressing both muscle activity and skin structure, often produces the most comprehensive results.

NeoGen plasma for wrinkles Warrington
Regenerative · Multi-Concern

NeoGen Plasma Skin Regeneration

For static wrinkles and deeper lines that have developed from collagen loss, NeoGen plasma produces genuine structural improvement by triggering new collagen and elastin production at depth. It smooths both superficial fine lines and more established wrinkles simultaneously, making it one of the most comprehensive anti-ageing treatments available without surgery. Results develop over four to six months and last two to three years.

Profhilo

Profhilo delivers a high concentration of hyaluronic acid deep into the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production and improving overall skin quality. It is particularly effective for fine lines and crepey texture caused by dehydration and early collagen loss. Results appear within four to six weeks and it combines exceptionally well with anti-wrinkle injections for a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation.

Injectable · Cellular Repair

Polynucleotide Treatment

Polynucleotides work at a cellular level to repair and regenerate skin tissue, improving fine lines, skin quality and overall texture. Particularly effective in delicate areas such as around the eyes and mouth where other treatments are not always appropriate. Where We Treat

Areas we treat for wrinkles and lines

Different areas respond to different treatments. Dr Corcoran selects the most appropriate approach for each area during your consultation.

Forehead
Horizontal forehead lines respond exceptionally well to anti-wrinkle injections. Early treatment prevents dynamic lines from becoming permanent static wrinkles.
Between the Brows
Glabellar frown lines are one of the most common concerns we treat. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the corrugator muscles to smooth the area naturally.
Eyes and Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet around the eyes respond well to anti-wrinkle injections. Polynucleotides are effective for the delicate under-eye area where other treatments are not suitable.
Mouth and Lips
Lines around the mouth and lip lines respond well to a combination of NeoGen and dermal filler. Dr Corcoran will advise on the most natural-looking approach.
Neck and Décolletage
Horizontal neck lines and crepey décolletage respond well to NeoGen and Profhilo, improving both texture and depth of lines over a course of treatment.
Full Face Rejuvenation
For patients with multiple concerns, a combination plan addressing dynamic lines, static lines, volume loss and skin quality together often produces the most comprehensive outcome.

Common Questions

Wrinkle treatment in Warrington: your questions answered

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often before patients book.

What is the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and fillers?
Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles that cause dynamic expression lines — forehead, frown and crow’s feet. Dermal fillers add volume to soften static lines and restore lost fullness. They treat different problems and are often used together for the most comprehensive result. Dr Corcoran will explain which is appropriate for your specific concerns during consultation.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
Most patients find results last three to four months. With regular treatment over time, many patients find they need fewer sessions as the muscles gradually reduce in activity. Dr Corcoran will advise on the right maintenance schedule for your specific situation.
Will I look frozen or unnatural?
Not when treatment is delivered correctly. Dr Corcoran’s approach is always to preserve natural expression while smoothing the lines. The frozen look is the result of too much product placed incorrectly. His NHS surgical background and decades of anatomical training means placement is precise and the result looks like a refreshed version of you, not someone who has had treatment.
Which treatment is best for deep wrinkles?
For deep static lines, NeoGen plasma or a combination of NeoGen with dermal filler tends to produce the most significant improvement. Anti-wrinkle injections address muscle activity but do not fill or rebuild the skin structure. Dr Corcoran will assess your lines and recommend the most appropriate approach during your consultation in Warrington.
Is there any downtime?
Anti-wrinkle injections and Profhilo involve minimal to no downtime. Dermal fillers may cause minor bruising for a few days. NeoGen involves three to five days of redness. Polynucleotides involve minimal downtime. Dr Corcoran will discuss the recovery for each treatment so you can plan accordingly.
At what age should I start wrinkle treatments?
There is no right age. Some patients in their late twenties choose preventative anti-wrinkle treatment before lines become established. Others wait until lines are more pronounced. Dr Corcoran will give you an honest assessment of what treatment would and would not achieve at your current stage and will never recommend treatment you do not need.
Can wrinkle treatments be combined?
Yes, and they often produce better results together. Anti-wrinkle injections combined with Profhilo, for example, addresses both muscle activity and skin quality simultaneously. NeoGen combined with polynucleotides can produce comprehensive improvement in skin structure and fine line texture. Dr Corcoran will recommend the most effective combination for your specific concerns.

What patients say about treatment at The Plasma Doctor

Excellent clinic. The best and most thorough I have experienced. It is my go-to place for botox as well as skin tightening treatments. Top results.

Had my Botox done by the lovely James. Very professional, results showed in just a few days and a top up was provided. Lovely clean environment, would definitely recommend.

Dr Jim is not only a trained dentist, surgeon and anaesthetist at the top of his game, he really does put the client at the heart of the treatment plan from start to finish. Supportive, empathetic and kind. Super delighted with the results achieved.
