What exosome treatment is used for

Purasomes is added to a treatment rather than used on its own. With NeoGen plasma or microneedling it supports the skin while it recovers and renews, and on the scalp it is used for thinning hair.

  • Dull, tired skin

Skin that has lost its brightness and looks tired, whatever goes on it.

  • Texture and fine lines

Rough or uneven skin and fine lines, improving over the months after NeoGen or microneedling as the skin renews.

  • Recovery after NeoGen or microneedling

Applied while the skin is at its most receptive, to support it as it settles. Whether it makes enough difference for you to be worth the extra is a conversation for the consultation.

  • Thinning hair

A separate Purasomes product for the scalp. The evidence for hair is earlier still, and the cause of the thinning is looked at first.

Whether Purasomes is worth adding is a clinical judgement, made in person. NeoGen or microneedling alone is often enough, and Dr Corcoran will say so when it is.

How exosome treatment works

Exosomes are tiny packages that cells use to send signals to one another. Purasomes is a serum containing them. It is applied to the skin straight after NeoGen plasma or microneedling, because that is when the skin is most receptive and already busy renewing itself.

There are two versions. NC150+ is used on the face and neck. HSC50+ is made for the scalp, and is applied after microneedling the scalp. Dr Corcoran decides which suits you, and which treatment it goes with, at the consultation.

The laboratory research is interesting. The clinical evidence in people is still early, with small studies rather than large trials, and earlier still for hair. Nothing is injected: injected exosome products are treated as medicines in the UK and none is licensed for aesthetic use, which is why this clinic uses only a serum applied to the skin.

The two treatments it goes with are described in full on the NeoGen plasma page and the microneedling page.

Three ways Purasomes is used

How exosome treatment differs when it is applied after NeoGen plasma, after microneedling, or on the scalp
What we are comparing With NeoGen plasma With microneedling On the scalp
Usually chosen for Texture, tone and fine lines, up to the eyelids Texture, scarring, pores and fine lines Thinning hair
Purasomes version NC150+ NC150+ HSC50+
Recovery From a day or two, longer at stronger settings A day or two of redness and mild swelling As after microneedling
Price at the clinic £335, plus NeoGen from £960 £335, plus microneedling at £180 Priced at consultation

The honest comparison is with the same treatment on its own, because NeoGen or microneedling does the main work either way. The question is whether the extra support is worth the extra cost for your skin.

PRP is the other thing often applied with microneedling, and it uses your own blood rather than a product. Polynucleotides are a separate treatment, chosen for thin, delicate skin.

The longer versions

Dr Corcoran offers all of these, so the comparison is not steering you towards the one on this page.

What it costs, and what happens

Purasomes is priced on top of the treatment it is applied with. You are quoted precisely at consultation, once Dr Corcoran has seen your skin and knows whether the treatment alone would do.

For the Purasomes, on top of NeoGen plasma (from £960) or microneedling (£180). Hair and scalp treatment is priced at consultation. Dr Corcoran will say how many sessions you need, and whether the treatment alone would be enough. The consultation that produces the quote is free.

Who it suits, and the risks

Exosome treatment suits people having NeoGen plasma or microneedling who want to add support for the skin as it recovers, or who want to try it for thinning hair, knowing the evidence is still early.

A good fit if

  • NeoGen plasma or microneedling suits your skin
  • You would like to add support for its recovery
  • You are comfortable with early evidence, honestly described
  • You want nothing injected

Not the right answer if

  • Neither NeoGen nor microneedling suits you. Purasomes is not used on its own
  • You have an active skin infection, cold sore or flare of acne in the area
  • You want a guaranteed result. The evidence does not support one
  • Your hair loss has not been looked into. The cause matters first

Pregnancy, allergies, a tendency to scar or to darken after injury, and any skincare you use are discussed before anything is booked.

The recognised risks

Most of what you will notice after treatment comes from the NeoGen or microneedling, and it depends on which. The serum itself adds a small risk of its own.

  • Redness and swelling, for a day or two or longer, depending on the treatment
  • Dryness, peeling or flaking as the skin settles
  • Irritation or an allergic reaction to the serum, which is uncommon
  • Infection, which is rare, and why aftercare matters

The bigger limitation is not a side effect. It is that the evidence is still early, so the size of any benefit over the treatment alone is not yet well established, for skin or for hair.

A great deal of the lasering and injecting done in this industry is done by people who did a short course. Most clinicians qualify once. He qualified as a dentist, operated on faces and jaws in maxillofacial surgery, then went back to university and qualified again as a doctor, then in surgery, then in anaesthesia, then in cosmetic medicine. Thirty years of that was in the NHS, fourteen as a Consultant Anaesthetist and ten of those simultaneously as Clinical Director, accountable for clinical standards across departments.

There are no technicians here acting on his behalf. Your consultation, your treatment and your review are all with him.

Exosomes are one of the areas of aesthetics where marketing runs furthest ahead of the evidence. The person advising you here has spent a career in hospital medicine, and he will tell you what is known, what is not, and whether it is worth your money.

An anaesthetist spends a career learning what can go wrong and being the person who notices first. That is a more useful habit to bring to this work than any device I could buy.

The consultation alone was worth its weight in gold. Dr Corcoran was completely transparent about what could and could not be achieved. That level of honesty is genuinely rare in aesthetics.

The laboratory research is interesting, but the clinical evidence in people is still early, with small studies rather than large trials. Dr Corcoran will tell you honestly whether he thinks it is worth adding for you.

There is a Purasomes product made for the scalp, HSC50+, applied after microneedling the scalp. The evidence for hair is earlier still than for skin, and the cause of the thinning is looked into first, because some causes need a different answer.

£335 for the Purasomes, on top of the treatment it is applied with: NeoGen plasma from £960, or microneedling at £180. Hair and scalp treatment is priced at consultation.

Dr Corcoran will say at consultation, based on your skin or scalp and on the NeoGen or microneedling course it is part of.

About the same as the treatment it goes with. A day or two of redness after microneedling or light NeoGen, longer after stronger NeoGen, sometimes with peeling or flaking.
